Uvalux is One of Canada’s Top 50 Employers…Again!
For the second year in a row, Uvalux Tanning and Support is proud to celebrate as the 37th best small to medium employer in the country! The study is conducted by Queen’s Centre for Business and Hewitt Associates, in partnership with The Globe and Mail. “We feel extremely proud of this accomplishment,” says Nik Van Haeren, President of Uvalux. “Our dedicated staff continually demonstrates our company’s philosophy, which is to provide ‘Service From Our Heart’. It’s really about our family. Our staff creates this work environment for each other. They deserve all the credit.” Every staff member attends our monthly meeting which provides a platform to recognize each other for their extra efforts. This meeting also presents an opportunity for the staff to be rewarded for any cost saving ideas that benefited the company in the preceding month. “We engage our team, build this family, and help them transfer their passion to our customers and the Industry.” Results of the study were published in February 2010 in The Globe and Mail. Family
- It’s a Boy!The Uvalux staff is happy to welcome and introduce the newest member of our family! Proud parents are Jeff Van Haeren and Adrienne Fisher, Marketing & Creative Director. Thijs Van Haeren was born Saturday March 6th weighing 9lbs 2oz. We wish you all the happiness in the world!
- Uvalux is continuing Haiti relief efforts by raising money for Friends of the Orphans Canada. The not-for-profit organization supports Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (Our Little Brothers and Sisters), which has orphanages in nine countries, including an orphanage in Haiti. Many of the organization's projects in the country were damaged in the earthquake. The NPH Medical Centre and Pediatric Hospital in St Damien suffered significant structural damage and therefore medical supplies and food are limited.
So far Friends of the Orphans Canada raised close to $280,000 from January 12 to February 12 with the help of Uvalux and its subsidiary companies to help buy medicine and food. The government of Canada will match this amount giving us a total of $560,000 in emergency funds to Haiti.

Friends of the Orphans annual meeting will be held on May the 8th at Springfield Golf and Country Club in Guelph, Ontario. Registrations can be done online or registrations at the door by 10:30am. Guest speaker will be Ken Speers talking about his experience helping in Haiti through this difficult time.

- Kim Young, owner of Golden Tan Salon in New Minas, Nova Scotia, writes:
“Golden Tan opened in December 1984, we started with 2 beds and have grown to 9. We are very proud to have served our customers for over 25 years. We have worked hard to build a salon where our main focus is on the individual customer's needs. We take pride in having a clean, relaxing and safe environment for our customers. In our early years we sponsored a women's softball team and have continued to donate gift certificates and products to our many local schools and organizations for fundraisers. We've been involved with the Apple Blossom Festival in the corporate "duck race", where our duck was named "Goldie" and was decorated for a day at the beach! Our favourite and longest running event is definitely our Tans 4 Cans food bank drive. We've held this annually for over 15 years and it just keeps getting bigger and better every year.
We've made some changes over the years, some by request from customers, such as our minutes offer as well as packages and student rates. We are located near a university, community college and several high schools. We have been honored that some of our original customers are still here with us and we have watched many families grow up, their children get married and start their own families. It's like having a very large tanning family and it grows every year. You can't put a price on the friendships you make with people.
Over 25 years we've had our ups and downs just like any small business but it's been an interesting ride and we're looking forward to the next 25 years! I am always amazed at the new trends, products and equipment that the industry keeps coming up with and how supportive everyone is. Thank you so much.”
